Our Story

Founded by Lucy Barnes, LULU The Label was created when she wanted to find a use for the scrap fabrics leftover from her Fashion Design Degree. Throughout the process of creating her Final Collection at university, excessive fabric waste started to become more apparent. Keen to not discard any scraps and leftover fabric, Lucy decided to design and make beautiful hair scrunchies as a ‘scrap-busting’ project.

All products from LULU The Label are handmade with love by Lucy in Hertfordshire, England. This ensures that the process is seen from start to finish, preventing the disposal of any lovely fabrics.

Encompassing a fresh and thoughtful perspective, LULU The Label sources fabrics that are either unwanted scraps, deadstock, ex-designer or brand new, which are then cut using a meticulous zero waste pattern cutting technique. Through purchasing an accessory from our brand, you can feel assured that you have saved a piece of fabric from entering landfill waste!

Sustainability is important to us.

We pride ourselves in caring for the environment. You will find that the postal bags we use are biodegradable and paper packaging recyclable. Our main focus is to eradicate waste whether it be through our scrap-busting scrunchies, zero waste pattern cutting techniques or packaging.

We are even David Attenborough recognised, in a touching personal written letter.

“Dear Lucy,

Thank you for your letter. I am delighted to know that you are doing so much to help in dealing with the problem with plastics. The natural world needs all the help we can give it.

Best wishes,

David Attenborough” - 2019
